Home Office Design: how to create the perfect space?

A lonely table accompanied by an awkward chair is not the most appealing scene in the world. The hours you spend in your home office should be productive hours and instigated by a pleasant and functional workspace that – with some attention to detail and little investment – can be easily achieved! Discover everything in this article!

First steps to a productive home office

To function well, the space reserved for a home office must be organized according to ergonomic rules. So, there are a few things you should keep in mind before you start transforming your personal office:

1. Space and Lighting

First, think about the quietest areas in your home. Choose a spacious place, with relative exposure to sunlight. The ideal is to have a source of natural light that illuminates the work table from the side, so as not to tire or hurt your eyes.

If this is not possible, choose to install a floor lamp, with an affordable design and price and warm white bulbs. Don't immediately give up on corners and niches and don't underestimate their potential! Use ingenuity and imagination to create a bold and vibrant corner that can inspire your workday. In a home office, aminimalist designworks very well. Here, consider installing removable dividers or using a bookcase to clearly delimit your workspace. This element can be used to archive documents and put down that much-deserved cup of coffee!

2. Privacy and organization

You must do everything to avoid distractions and consequent sleepless nights to recover undone work. Establish rules for a peaceful work environment. Distractions such as family interactions and household chores should be minimized or eliminated entirely. Mainly parents or grandparents with children at home. It's a good idea to consider installing noise-absorbing panels and setting up your home office in a room with a door.

On the other hand, a well-organized office will be key to keeping distractions at bay. Therefore, the best thing to do is to be realistic and find solutions adjusted to your reality. For example, if your work method is to create piles of documents, assume it. Buy or create boxes to keep the situation under control. They can be stored under the desk and always be at hand. Likewise, if things like post-its and loose sheets of paper tend to help, put a cork board on the wall and post everything as organized as possible!

3. Temperature and ventilation

In environments where no type of physical activity is carried out, the ideal temperature is around 20-21 degrees. However, in a context like the current one, it is essential to frequently open the windows to ventilate the room. A practice that allows you to oxygenate your brain and, above all, prevent the accumulation of germs and bacteria in your home office.

4. Work desk and monitor

For smaller areas, positioning the desk against the wall is perfect. You can take advantage of the vertical space above the table to build shelves and organize what would otherwise clutter the work surface. To avoid hurting your neck, your computer monitor should be placed at eye level and no more than 70 centimeters away. It is recommended to place it 10-15 centimeters from the edge of the table to be able to rest your forearm on the surface and keep your fist extended to click the keyboard keys.

Finally, to work from home in a truly comfortable way, you should opt for an office chair with five wheels and an adjustable seat. Your torso should be perpendicular to your thighs, forming a 90-degree angle. It is also important to have a footrest to avoid leaning your torso, in the instinct of getting too close to the computer screen.
