Remodel: through the eyes of those who know

Corinne Dahoui has a slightly atypical professional career. After taking his first steps at the Institut d’Etudes Supérieures des Arts, in Paris, he was responsible for opening a contemporary art center that he directed for more than 20 years. Soon after, he embarked on a new adventure, taking on the commercial management of a French multinational, where he had the opportunity to develop his ability to motivate and inspire. In March 2019, Corinne Dahoui made her debut at the helm of Medd Design's commercial team, where she is the Commercial Director, responsible for the French market. What reasons lead the pharmacist to resort to a remodeling project?

There are several reasons that lead pharmacists to remodel their pharmacy, but I can say that there are three main ones. The first happens when a pharmacy changes ownership. Generally, the pharmacist wants to transform the space to define a new image and a new positioning in the market. The second is a little more common. This is a desire to update the look of the pharmacy and modernize the space so that it is more functional and dynamic. Finally, we have space transfer. This is, when the pharmacy is transferred to a new location, whether for strategic or operational reasons. In this case, we created a new pharmacy instead of renovating an existing one.

What are the main benefits of a remodeling project?

The first advantage of remodeling is – obviously – the increase in pharmacy sales. In fact, as soon as the works are completed, sales increase by around 15%. With optimized exposure and enhanced workflows, users end up spending more. Furthermore, the renovation of the pharmacy attracts curious looks that end up becoming loyal to the brand and the new space.

Another advantage is the operational accommodation of new services. That is, for services such as vaccinations or specialist consultations it is often necessary to design a new office or private practice. From the first contact with the customer, how does everything go?

The first step is to visit the pharmacy. Afterwards, we hold a meeting with the client to understand what their expectations are regarding the project. At this stage, it is interesting to have a discussion about the needs of the pharmacy and its team of professionals. From here on, we only start the remodeling when all plans are approved by the client.

During the development phase, the project begins to be effectively executed and the transformation of the space begins to take place. We, as sales representatives, are alongside our clients at all stages of the renovation, as are the team of architects, designers and marketing specialists.

In general, what are the pharmacist's main requirements for a project of this type?

Essentially, the pharmacist wants to have access to someone who listens to them and helps them navigate through all phases of the process, in a calm and informed way. My role is to answer all questions and ensure that all deadlines are met. As sector experts, we must ensure a return on investment, with a space truly capable of increasing revenue.

During construction, is it always necessary to close the pharmacy?

No. In fact, the pharmacy always remains open to the public while we carry out the intervention. Everything is planned in detail so that the normal functioning of the pharmacy does not undergo any changes. Naturally, depending on the size or layout of the pharmacy, the intervention plan varies.

What delights you in this sector of activity?

Despite the demands of the profession, we have the freedom to present design projects that are truly outside the box. Pharmacists are very open-minded and I like exploring ideas with them. I admire the way they see the profession and I am impressed by their creativity. Furthermore, I really enjoy working withteam of architects and designers from Medd.
